Metro Mining, an award-winning mining group, has adopted ESdat Data Management Software developed by Earth Science Information Systems (EScIS). Metro Mining Limited is an Australian exploration and mining company based in Brisbane, Queensland. Metro commenced mining operations at its flagship project, the Bauxite Hills Mine, 95 km north of Weipa on western Cape York, in April this year.

Metro conducts surface water and groundwater environmental monitoring to meet operating licence conditions, as well as drinking water and sewage treatment analysis. Metro approached EScIS seeking a centralised data collection/storage solution, enabling visibility of data trends to guide and assess corrective actions. Management and reporting of lab data formed the key focus, together with field data collected during sampling events.

EScIS worked with Metro to confirm ESdat Online as the right ESdat solution to meet their specific needs. The intuitive interface of ESdat Online has resulted in a rapid uptake within Metro’s operations. Automated lab report import ensures results are captured wholly and efficiently. With a few clicks, data of interest can then be presented in tables or maps for interpretation. New data is easily compared with historical data that was imported into ESdat Online with assistance from EScIS.

“Having worked with a number of databases over the course of our combined environmental management careers, the environmental team at Metro Mining has found ESdat to be extremely user-intuitive and simple to use. We appreciate that our laboratory data is migrated across to ESdat at the click of a button, saving us time, resources and more importantly limiting human error. I would strongly recommend ESdat to not only other mine sites, but to any industry needing an easily navigable and cost-efficient database to manage their water quality data storage needs.”
